Scanner could be more useful

In theory this app is great. Trader Joes is my nearest grocery store. I started scanning items in my fridge to create an inventory and have to enter everything manually. It would be nice if the barcode scanner would at least pull up the name and category of the item so I could just add the use by date. This is too much work to put in all this info for each item. I dont see myself manually entering every item I get at the grocery store each week. Idk maybe Im using it wrong or shopping at the wrong grocery store.

Also what is in the $2.99 upgrade? The features of the upgrade dont seem to be advertised anywhere.
